Product Care

Thank you for caring for your Finefolk Furniture.

If your furniture is finished in Oil & Hard Wax, then it is with the Osmo Polyx-Oil clear, matt finish. This finish gives wood a 'wet look'. It is described by Osmo as:

  • Extremely durable and hardwearing
  • Very water, dirt and abrasion resistant
  • Enhances the wood’s natural character
  • Highly resistant to common liquid spillages such as water, juice, tea, cola and wine
  • Saliva-resistant and sweatproof, suitable for children’s toys (EN71.3)
  • Microporous, breathable finish which does not crack, peel, flake or blister
  • No sanding necessary for future applications
  •
It can be recoated if your furniture appears dry, though this should not be required for several years. If liquid spills on your furniture, clean it up with a soft cloth as soon as possible. To clean, furniture can be wiped with a damp cloth followed up by a dry cloth. Osmo also offers various cleaning products.

If the furniture is damaged, it will require sanding and refinishing which we can offer at a charge or guide you through the process.

If your furniture is finished in a Soap Finish, then it was finished with our shopmade natural soap flakes and boiled water finish. This gives wood a 'dry look'. Finishing furniture with soap is a traditional, light duty finish that softens the touch of the wood, retains the woods natural colouring and provides some protection from wear. This finish will not prevent your furniture from signs of wear, it permits the furniture to age naturally. We offer this finish because we like the soft, close-contact feeling of the natural wood and how it does not significantly alter the original colour of the wood. Soap finish looks great on Hard Maple, keeping it milky white, and Red Oak, highlighting the beiges instead of the pinks.

To clean, furniture can be wiped with a damp cloth followed up by a dry cloth. If liquid spills on your furniture, clean it up with a soft cloth as soon as possible.

If you feel that your soap finished furniture requires some refreshing you can prepare soap finish at home and apply overtop of the existing finish. For deeper maintenance, scrub your furniture with a facecloth and hot water, let dry. Lightly sand with 220 grit, then reapply two coats of soap finish. Let dry between coats and buff vigorously.

If the furniture is damaged, it will require sanding and refinishing which we can offer at a charge or guide you through the process.

Thank you for choosing these natural finishes. They are better for you and us and the environment.
